چکیده
This article is a short overview of some recent research activity in the Laboratory of Inorganic Synthesis and Catalysis (LSCI) at EPFL-ISIC. It summarizes the work on Ni-catalyzed cross-coupling reactions of non-activated alkyl halides. It then describes and discusses the work on the bio-mimetic chemistry of [Fe]-hydrogenase.

Synthesis and Metal Ion Uptake Studies of Silica Gel-Immobilized Schiff Base Derivatives and Catalytic Behaviors of their Cu(II) Complexes
New silica supported Schiff base ligands were prepared by the condensation reaction of 4,6-diacetylresorcinol with silica-gel derivatives, which modified with 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane and N-(2-aminoethyl) -3-aminopropyltrimethoxysilane. Metal ion uptake capacities of these compounds were studied towards of selected transition metal (Cd(II), Cu(II), Co(II), Mn(II), Pb(II) and Ni(II)) cations...
متن کاملConverting homogeneous to heterogeneous catalysts
Homogeneous transition metal complex catalysts for organic industrial processes are converted to catalysts which are heterogeneous with respect to the reactants, and which have substantially equal catalytic activity to the homogeneous catalysts. This is done by reacting a normally homogeneous transition metal complex catalyst with a metal bridging ligand which substantially duplicates the ligan...
متن کاملPalladium(II) Phosphine-Ylide Complexes as Highly Efficient Homogeneous Pre-catalysts for the Ullmann Homocoupling Reaction of Aryl Halides
A highly efficient Ullmann homocoupling reaction of aryl halides using palladium (II) phosphine-ylide complexes as homogenous pre-catalysts under aerobic conditions has been developed without the need for any chemical co‐reducing agents. The procedure is relatively mild and appears to have broad applicability, being useful for the homocoupling of both electron-deficient and electron-rich aryl h...
متن کاملBioactive Salen-type Schiff Base Transition Metal Complexes as Possible Anticancer Agents
Although metal-based anticancer drugs have been recognized as the most effective agents over the organic compounds, non-selectivity and high toxic effects have limited their applications in a way that only three Pt-analogues have progressed into clinical use. These problems have spurred chemists to develop different strategies based on alternative targets. This work focuses on predicting potenc...
